A new commuter neighborhood emerges in Secaucus New Jersey.  A long narrow park was created as a destination for the residents.  We incorporated walking paths, multifunctional common areas, passive relaxing areas, and a planting design with a colorful garden feel.

We were hired to help in the creation of this new community. Xchange at Secaucus Junction project is a mixed use residential and commercial development located at exit 15X off the New Jersey turnpike.  Its location takes advantage of the Secaucus Transfer Station into Manhattan located at this exit. The property is bordered by the Hackensack River to west, Laurel Hill Park to the South, New Country Road to the east, and industrial buildings to the north. The site was a landfill prior to redevelopment. Our firm was charged with developing and urban park within a narrow stretch of road, into a defined open space in the heart of the development.

The objective was to create an oasis for these residents, within a densely built environment. We wanted to provide a destination that would draw in outside communities, as well as engage the residents with the development of active and passive spaces.
